What to review with flashcards
Cards work best for compact knowledge: inspection intervals, responsibilities, terminology, damage-mechanism clues, welding variables and the steps of a calculation. A card should ask for one decision or relationship. If it tries to hold a whole code paragraph, it becomes a smaller page to reread rather than a recall exercise.
Keep code navigation in the plan. Some open-book questions depend less on remembering a sentence than on recognizing which document and section can settle the issue. Use a card to remember the route, then open the current official reference and practise finding the rule in context.
- Use recall cards for rules, definitions and short calculation steps.
- Use illustrated cards when equipment geometry or a damage pattern benefits from a visual cue.
- Use the official code documents to confirm wording, exceptions and current requirements.
How review sessions work
A review session presents a manageable queue rather than asking you to reread every card. Reveal the answer only after making a genuine attempt, then rate how well you recalled it. The review schedule uses that response to decide which material should return sooner and which can wait longer.
Illustrations are used where they add technical meaning. They may show an equipment relationship, inspection location or failure pattern, but not every concept needs or has a drawing. The text, explanation and reference remain important, especially when a simplified image cannot carry every qualification found in a code.
Combine cards with other study modes
Keep a separate place for calculations that require several written steps. A card can prompt the method or the meaning of a variable, but confidence comes from completing the calculation by hand and checking units. Likewise, use the current Body of Knowledge and effectivity sheet to decide what belongs in your plan.
Trial and full access#
InspectAhead provides limited free access so you can test the review flow and card style. Full access is included with a paid pass, under the duration and conditions shown in the app. Study sessions require an internet connection. The cards are original study aids, not downloadable copies of the code books.
Frequently asked questions
Are API 570 flashcards enough to prepare for the exam?#
No. Use them for recall, then add current code reading, original practice questions, calculations and timed mock exams. The exam requires both remembered knowledge and application.
Does every InspectAhead card include an illustration?#
No. Illustrated cards are used where a visual cue improves understanding. Other cards rely on a focused prompt, explanation and reference because a drawing would add little.
How does spaced repetition help?#
It brings difficult material back sooner and delays material you recalled more securely. It organizes review; it does not prove mastery or predict an official result.
Can I use the flashcards offline?#
Study sessions require an internet connection. InspectAhead does not present the cards, standards or wider study content as a complete offline library.
