API 570 / Mock exam guide

API 570 mock exam practice

A mock exam is not a longer quiz. It tests whether you can hold your reasoning for several hours, switch from recall to code navigation, and work against a clock that does not stop. InspectAhead runs timed mock exams built on the structure of the real sitting, then reports your result by domain so the session tells you what to study next.

How the mock works

The full-length mock follows the official structure: a closed-book section first, then an open-book section, each with its own timer. You answer multiple-choice questions in the exam style, move between them with a navigation grid, and flag anything to revisit before the section closes.

Shorter timed formats exist for the days when you cannot protect a full sitting. Same question style, same timing discipline, fewer questions: useful between full attempts rather than a substitute for them.

  • Closed-book section first, then open-book, each timed separately.
  • Navigation grid to move between questions, and flagging to mark items for review.
  • A report by Body of Knowledge domain at the end of the session.
  • An internet connection is required for study sessions.

Review your session

The score at the end of a mock is the least useful number in the report. What matters is the breakdown by domain: calculations, welding, NDE, general practice and specific practice do not fail in the same way, and the pattern of your mistakes decides where the next block of study goes.

With a paid pass, the AI coach reads the session, explains the result and sets out review priorities for the next one.

Practice versus the official exam

  1. Treat your mock as practice

An InspectAhead result is a practice result. The official exam is delivered at Prometric test centres and reported as a scaled score against a published standard of 400, equated per exam window, with no negative marking. Our report does not reproduce that scale, and no practice score converts into an official one.

  2. Do not lean on the internal index

The preparation index in the app, on a scale of 0 to 100, is experimental and internal: it compares your own sessions over time and forecasts nothing. No practice platform, ours included, can guarantee a result.

  3. Check official rules at the source

For eligibility, exam windows, fees and booking rules, go to the source: API (api.org) publishes the certification programme and its requirements, and Prometric handles scheduling and test centre rules. Those change: check the current version.

Access and limits#

A free account gives limited access, including a trial of the mock exam format. Full access to the question bank and the timed mock exams comes with a paid pass; the passes, their duration and their price are shown in the app.

Practice questions and mock exams are separate entry points: free sample questions, without an account, let you judge the level and the style, and a pass is what opens the complete timed sittings.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a full API 570 mock exam?#

The official sitting runs 2 h 45 for the closed-book section and 3 h 45 for the open-book section, with a 45-minute break between them. A full-length mock follows that structure and the shorter formats compress it. Block the time before you start.

Is the mock exam free?#

A free account includes limited access and a trial of the mock format. The complete timed mock exams are part of a paid pass, while sample practice questions stay free and need no account.

Does a mock exam score predict my official result?#

No. It is a practice score on practice questions and it does not convert to the official scale. Use it to compare your own sessions, not to estimate an official outcome.

Are the mock questions the real exam questions?#

No. They are original items written in the exam style from the documents in the Body of Knowledge. Nobody publishes the official items, and any source claiming to should worry you.
