API 570 / Exam cost guide

API 570 exam cost and study budget

Budgeting for API 570 means four separate lines, not one price: the fee you pay API, the documents you study from, any training you buy, and the practice tools you use. This page sets out that structure so you can fill in current figures from the official schedule. We publish no amount: a stale number is worse than none.

Official fees

The certification fee is set by API and published with the programme on api.org, in the fee schedule that accompanies the exam calendar. It is the one line you cannot shop around for, and the one to check first because everything else is sized against it.

Preparation costs

Below the official fee, every line is a choice. The documents in the Body of Knowledge are the big one: buying the full set of codes and recommended practices new is the largest optional cost most candidates face, so ask about employer access before you spend your own money.

Courses sit next, across a wide range depending on duration and provider. Practice tools, ours included, sit below that. The question is not which is cheapest but which gap you have: missing documents, missing instruction, or missing repetition.

Books versus tools#

The exam displays the applicable documents on screen, so a personal library is a study investment, not an exam requirement. You need enough access to learn their structure, in the editions that match your window. Practice questions do a different job: turning reading into recall and navigation speed. Here, sample questions are free, a free account gives limited access, and a paid pass opens the full bank and the timed mock exams.

Build your budget

  1. Write every line and verify it

Write the lines down, fill them with verified figures, then add the ones candidates forget: a second attempt is a real possibility and costs money, and recertification comes round on its own cycle. A budget that assumes one attempt and no renewal is not a budget.

  2. Respect the payment sequence

Sequence matters as much as the total. Confirm eligibility before you pay anything, then the fee and the application, then the documents, then the preparation tools once you know your weak domains.

  • Certification fee, from the official schedule, current on your pay date.
  • Documents, or employer access, in the edition applicable to your window.
  • A reserve for a second attempt and for the next recertification.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the API 570 exam cost?#

API publishes the figure, with its conditions, in the fee schedule beside the exam calendar on api.org. We do not reproduce it: fees are revised, they vary by applicant category, and a copied number ages badly. Take it from the source on the day you pay.

Is the certification fee the whole cost?#

No. Plan separately for the documents, training if you need it, practice tools, and travel to a test centre. A reserve for a second attempt belongs in the budget too.

Do I have to buy the codes?#

Not for the exam itself, which displays the applicable documents on screen. You do need enough access to study them, often through an employer subscription rather than a personal purchase.

How much does InspectAhead cost?#

Sample questions are free and need no account, and a free account gives limited access. Full access to the question bank and the timed mock exams comes with a paid pass; the passes and their prices are shown in the app.
